Endocrinology is a branch of medicine dedicated to the study of the glands and hormones which regulate many of the processes in the body. The aim of nuclear medicine in imaging endocrine diseases is to give your doctor an insight into the way the body, its hormones, and glands are functioning.
The most common scans performed are;
- thyroid uptake scans to assess the function and disease of the thyroid gland
- parathyroid adenoma localisation
- MIBG and octreotide scans which are used to identify special tumours called neuroendocrine tumours
